Our History

Bryan Construction Company was established in 1957 by Frank Thurmond and B.F. Vance as Vance & Thurmond Construction Company. We are the oldest general construction contractor based in the Bryan/College Station area. In January 1958 Lynn Stuart became a partner in the company and in 1972 the firm was renamed Thurmond & Stuart General Contractors.

Larry Ridgway joined the company in July of 1970 as a part time estimator. Upon graduating in May 1972 from Texas A&M with a degree in Building Construction he was hired full time as an estimator. Over the years Larry rose through the ranks, becoming a Project Manager, Vice President, President and now CEO of Bryan Construction.

Bob Gilleland graduated from Texas A&M University in 1970 with a degree in Building Construction. Bob joined Bryan Construction in 1976 as a Project Manager. Bob was recently promoted to President of Bryan Construction effective September 1, 2012.

In 1973, Thurmond and Stuart General Contractors was incorporated as Bryan Construction Company with Frank Thurmond and Lynn Stuart as the principals.

Up until 1973, Bryan Construction was predominately involved in architectural construction, completing many projects for local government, school districts and Texas A&M University as well as numerous privately owned commercial projects. In 1973, Bryan Construction was awarded a contract to construct their first wastewater treatment plant in Somerville, Texas. Through Bryan Construction’s commitment to detail, this would become a successful segment of our portfolio. Over the years Bryan Construction has constructed or rehabilitated over 70 water and wastewater projects throughout Texas. There have been numerous instances where Bryan Construction has expanded a plant that we originally constructed years prior.

In September 1999, Larry and Bob purchased Bryan Construction Company from Frank and Lynn. Bryan Construction has continued to succeed as a direct result of one elementary principle - integrity of service. Simply stated: We do what we say we are going to do!
